Entrance Exams: The GMAT Exam

gmatThe Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is an essential part of the selection admission process for 4000 graduate management programs at 1,800 schools around the world. The exam has been accepted a proven and reliable measurement to judge a candidates’ skill and predict their success in the graduate business curriculum, for over 50 years.

The cost of this exam is US$250 worldwide. The GMAT exam consist of three main parts, the Analytical writing Assessment, the Quantitative section, and the Verbal Section. You have three and a half hour in which you have to finish the exam. This is a computer based exam. You need minimal computer skills to appear for this exam.

Most of the students start preparing about 3 to 6 months before the test date. You need a lot of discipline and dedication in your preparation.  This exam measures the basic verbal, Mathematical and analytical writing skills that you have developed in your earlier education.

GMAT scores are valid for five years. If you are not satisfied then you can go for another GMAT exam. Though, all your scores from the past five years will appear on your Official Score Report

GATE 2010: A Step Ahead in your Engineering Career

gate2010logoThe Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) -2010 is an all India examination i.e. conducted in eight zones across the country by the GATE committed comprising faculty from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and seven Indian Institute of Technology on behalf of the National Coordinating Board-GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), and Government of India.

The eligibility for appearing in GATE includes the following topics:

  • Bachelor degree in engineering/technology/architecture (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in final or pre final year.
  • Master degree holder in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in final year or pre final year.
  • Candidates in the second year or higher year of the four year integrated master degree program in Engineering/Technology.
  • Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by the professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE by the Institute of Civil Engineers as equivalent to B.E./B.TECH.

ONLINE Exam for TF paper from 09.30 hrs to 12.30 hrs:         07 FEB 2010

ONLINE Exam for MN paper from 14.30 hrs to 17.30 hrs:       07 FEB 2010

OFFLINE Exam for all papers except TF and MN from               14 FEB 2010

CAT’09: Starting Online from Nov 09

It is official now that CAT 09 is going online. This time the exam will be held in ten days starting on Saturday, 28 November 2009 to Monday, 7 December 2009. The duration of the test is 2 hours and 30 minutes including initial 15 minute tutorial. There will be no break during the examination. The test will basically have three sections that have questions based on quantitative, verbal, logical and data interpretation. The number of questions may vary from 60 to 70.

The candidate will be provided with a computer and some scratch paper at the test center. Any type of material is not allowed to be carried by the candidate in the test center. The official website of Cat’09 has a demo of the online test pattern that can give you the realistic feel of the exam. So, you can click that demo to observe the test pattern and get an idea of what the online exam will look like.

The results will be out from Friday, 22 January 2010 onwards on the CAT website. The CAT website will show the names of the successful candidates who have been called for the interviews by the IIMs. An interview letter will be sent to candidates who have cleared the exam by IIM. The criteria for short listing the candidates may vary from IIM to IIM.
